Chappie's Diner

A benefit and resturant review, all in one.

On Saturday, if you happened to drive down Washington Blvd. you may have seen the Chappie’s Diner parking lot full of cars.

They held a “Car & Bike Show Swap Meet” to raise money for Aaliyah Allison, age 3, and William Allison, age 1. These siblings lost their mother on May 10 to an automobile accident. The youngest, William, has a hole in his heart, a shunt in his head, and is unable to walk.  All of the proceeds that were raised at this event went directly to the two children.

Everyone that attended and brought their car or bike had to pay a registration fee. Trophies were awarded for best in show and many other categories. More than 100 cars and bikes were in attendance, 70 of which were registered.

Gianni’s and Rita’s were two other vendors that catered to this event.  There were carnival games to keep the kids entertained, door prizes and raffles, and plenty of beer to go around for the adults.

Chappie’s Diner is located in the Beltway Motel and has been open for a year now. The two brothers that own Chappies, Paul and Brian Chapman, also have an auto shop called Kwick Auto Parts on Washington Blvd. The brothers grew up locally, in the Linthicum area, and their parents owned a bakery in Baltimore Highlands called “Lil Chap’s Bakery.”

The food at Chappie’s is excellent and they provide a wide range of meals. When I recently ate at Chappie’s this weekend I had the chance to try the cream of crab soup, chicken quesadillas, fried shrimp, and a peanut butter pie.

The cream of crab is wonderful and has the great consistency that you find with a good bowl of cream of crab with the right amount of crab meat.  The chicken quesadillas have a ton of flavor and the portions are so big, most of the time you will leave with a take home box.  The desert was well prepared and was a great way to end the meal.  The check was less than $40 for everything, great prices.

Overall the food and service at Chappie’s was great.  Breakfast is served at 7am, seven days a week. Karaoke is on Thursdays and Fridays, and most Saturdays there is a live band. The daily specials include 1 lb. of jumbo shrimp, crab cake special, prime rib, lobster, and fish and chips. Go try Chappie’s for yourself and experience the great atmosphere and great food.
