Hot Spots: Great Movie Theaters

Sometimes the destination is as cool as the movie.

One of the most popular places to get some shelter during the heat is in the nearest movie theater. With more summer blockbusters such as The Dark Knight Rises on the horizon, along with recent releases like The Amazing Spider-Man and The Avengers, here are places you can take your kids and have them think you're the superhero.

Landmark Harbor East: The only movie theater in downtown Baltimore, Landmark is in the trendy Harbor East neighborhood. Next to the snack bar, you'll find an actual bar serving beer, wine and cocktails. The screening rooms have luxurious leather seats and the theater is 3D-ready. The theater is near plenty of other family-friendly destinations, including the National Aquarium and several restaurants.

Maryland Science Center: We can't not include the massive (five-stories tall!) screen at the science center. If you're looking for something more educational, this summer's IMAX schedule includes films on beavers, sea creatures and the Rocky Mountains, though in the past the science center screen has shown the likes of "Transformers" and "Harry Potter."

Cinemark Egyptian 24: The largest theater in the Baltimore area, Cinemark has an array of 3D cinemas, including one wall-to-wall XD screen. Just steps away in Arundel Mills, you'll find Dave and Buster's, family-friendly restaurants and an variety of other options for your day out. Want to have a date night or watch a movie the kids aren't ready for quite yet? Cinemark offers a playroom with child care.

Bengies Drive-In: This place should need no introduction for most of Baltimore County. One of the few drive-in theaters still standing nationwide, Bengies shows triple features every Friday and Saturday. Pull in, turn on the radio and even enjoy your own snacks (for an added fee). The downside is you'll need to bring your own air conditioning, too.
