What's in a Name?

Community development corporation seeks name for new group.

Since last fall, to organize a community development corporation -- a nonprofit entity that is hoped will act as an engine for stability and economic development in southwest Baltimore County.

The articles of incorporation have been filed, the bylaws and charter written. What does the CDC need now? A name.

Four neighboring southwest Baltimore County communities banded together to form the CDC – Lansdowne, Baltimore Highlands, Riverview and Bloomfield.

The CDC process was undertaken in 2008 by the Southwest Leadership Team, a meta-organization composed of representatives from community groups, social agencies, schools and other stakeholder organizations in this part of the county, with a $10,000 grant from the Baltimore County Office of Community Conservation.

Residents of Bloomfield, Baltimore Highlands, Lansdowne and Riverview are encouraged to submit suggestions for a name to SWBaltoCoCDCNameCompetition@gmail.com.

If the steering committee chooses to a name based on a suggestion, the person who submitted the name will be awarded a $25 gift card to a local restaurant.

The deadline for the contest is August 15, 2011.
