Vandals destroyed two statues of the Virgin Mary outside the Church of the Ascension School in Halethorpe this week.

In a post on his “Faith Matters” blog on Patch, Sean Caine wrote: “Statues can be replaced, for sure, and the vandalism resulted in no bodily harm.  But the Catholic community in Halethorpe is a little uneasy today, something just about any Catholic can understand, especially after seeing the broken pieces that are all that is left of the images of our Blessed Mother.”

Baltimore County Police told WBAL they believe the statues and a plaque were damaged Tuesday night. A groundskeeper discovered the damage Wednesday morning, the report said.

No arrests had been made as of Thursday.

Father John Williamson told WBAL: "There has been some vandalism in the neighborhood—kid stuff—but nothing quite on this level. We've had some issues with trash cans and stuff like that, kids pranks. This kind of raises it to a whole new level."
