Athlete: Jennifer Nonn School: Catonsville Year: Freshman Sport: Varsity Girls Soccer Position: Striker   Accomplishment: With the Comets needing to win their final two games to advance to the Baltimore County Championship, Nonn, as she’s done virtually all season, delivered. The freshman sensation scored one goal apiece in back-to-back victories over Eastern Tech (3-1) and Hereford (6-1), capping off a run of nine straight victories for the Comets. For the year, Nonn has tallied a team-high 17 goals to go along with two assists, and has scored at least once in 11 of the Comets’ 12 games this…
Athlete: Jose Moran School: Catonsville Year: Senior Sport: Varsity Soccer Position: Striker    Accomplishment: As he’s done for the Comets for virtually all of 2011, Moran led his unit offensively, scoring both of his team’s goals in Catonsville’s 2-1 victory over an impressive Dulaney squad that entered the contest at 7-1. Moran’s first goal tied the game at one apiece early on in the second half and the speedy striker pumped in his second score with three minutes into the sudden death overtime to give the Comets the win and a sterling 7-2 overall record on the season. Athlete: DeAndre’ Lane School: Catonsville Year: Junior Sport: Varsity Football Position: Running back   Accomplishment: In a seven-day span, Lane has put up some absolutely stunning numbers during the Comets back-to-back victories over Hereford and Eastern Tech. In the two games combined, the junior has carried 20 times for a whopping 309 yards—good enough for almost 15.5 yards per attempt. Of those 20 runs, five have gone for scores as Lane has used his electrifying speed to burst through holes and produce touchdown runs of 64, 64, 58, 54 and 10 yards.  Against Hereford last Friday, he also…
Athlete: Kevin Moy School: Owings Mills Year: Junior Sport: Badminton Accomplishment: Starting Wednesday September 21 and ending on Tuesday September 27, Moy took part in five consecutive matches against the likes of Western Tech, Patapsco, Loch Raven, Hereford and Dundalk. After the trying five game stretch, Moy emerged unbeaten in each of his No. 2 singles matches, improving his overall record to 6-1 on the season. Moy’s coach, Melinda Bell, attributes his success this season to quick footwork and a variety of shots, including a devastating drop shot that Moy can unleash at any time. Moy’s …
Athlete: Deniko Carter School: Catonsville Year: Senior Sport: Varsity Football Position: Wide Receiver/ Safety Accomplishment: Deniko Carter is making himself right at home in his opponent’s end zone.   In the Comets 35-15 victory over Woodlawn last Friday, Carter was an absolute game changer. The 6’3, two-way player snatched two interceptions in the first half, one which he ran back 35 yards for a touchdown to make the score 14-0. His second pick stopped Woodlawn just as the Warriors were knocking on the doorstep of the end zone to end the second quarter. With the score 21-8 after Woodlawn …
