Del. Glen Glass wasn't supposed to be in Annapolis this week.
But the man in the straw hat and dark sunglasses that made an appearance in the House Ways and Means Committee bore a striking resemblance to the Harford County Republican.
Early in July, Glass issued a statement declaring he would boycott the special session on gambling. Three weeks later, Glass issued another statement saying he was sticking to his guns—no special session for him.
And yet, on Monday there he was looking a little like Conan O'Brien meets Dennis Hopper.
"It is my understanding that important issues other than gambling, such as pit bulls and gun rights, may now be on the agenda during the special session," Glass said in a statement. "I feel that I have no choice but to be in Annapolis to vote on these important issues. The pit bull issue is one of major concern since I am myself a responsible pet owner and Marylanders are being forced out of their homes by their current landlords who face new liability issues under a recent court ruling. Because my constituents and I love animals, I have to fight for them. I am an avid supporter of Second Amendment rights, and it is always an emergency when gun ownership is under attack."
The House is expected to take up bills expanding gambling and attempting to overturn a Court of Appeals ruling that declared pit bulls an inherently dangerous breed of dog.
The gun bill the delegate referenced was sent to the the Senate Rules Committee where it is not expected to see the light of day before legislators leave Annapolis.
Glass, in his statement, repeated his belief that the "special session is for emergencies only, and the expansion of gambling does not constitute an emergency.”
There was no explanation for the hat.

Wow...you two non re-elected Havre de Grace City Council members are funny...you are both busting on councilman Randy Craig but you don't have the guts to say his name. Pat McGrady also ran for that seat. To say that Glenn Glass is better than Craig or McGrady sure explains why you two clowns are no longer on the Havre de Grace City council. Thank God.

It becomes a sad day when elections turn into choosing a "poor" candidate because he was the better choice. It seems like more and more people are making choices for one particular candidate because he/she doesn't like the other candidate. What happened to voting for your new leaders because of they they stand for, what they want you to benefit from, and how they want to better the country.....Maybe voters have to vote the way they do now because there are no candidates out there that seem to want to better our community/county/state/country.

In reality the candidate is supposed to represent our, "The voters" views. Some where along the line people started to vote for candidates to think for us. "What they stand for". They run for office, tells us what we want to hear and we vote for them. Then they do what they want. Until we get back to the way it's supposed to be, them voting for the majority of their constituents, we'll have people like Glen Glass.

It is doubtful that Glass was elected as a protest of his opponents. The general election losing candidates were McGrady and Posey-Moss (neither of which have held elected office). What is more likely is that the voters were not paying much attention whatsoever to the race, and when voters do not pay attention they tend to vote for the most simple sounding, typical 'American' name. The winners were James and Glass (Mary Dulaney James was an incumbent with strong name recognition - she won handily). I would be surprised if 75% of the voters in 34A even took 2 minutes to research those candidates - they probably voted for Glass because his name is simpler than McGrady and appears first alphabetically, and Posey-Moss was just too long of a name and did not sound like a good 'ol boy...

We need people that care less about image and more about issues. While I don't agree with Mr. Glass on several issues, I actually like his renegade style. The well dressed politicians in Annapolis are running this state into the ground; I'd rather see someone break from the norm as opposed to try to blend in down there.

I commend Delegate Glen Glass on what he did, his initial boycott was because of Gambling, but when he found out that the Pit Bull Legislation was going to be brought up, he did the RIGHT thing in representing all of you so that you would be able to continue to have your rights not be infringed upon. This is what happens in Nap Town, they set up a non emergency session on Gambling then decide to slop in other bills, at that point, I was happy to see Delegate Glass down there. He represented you and voted against the Gambling, which will suffocate even More the Maryland Tax Payer and will not bring in the PROJECTED revenues, and get this, Impallaria voted for the Gambling Expansion as did Jennings and Glassman, a disgrace. I guess that were bought and paid for by MGM kick backs, after all, what is Harford County Senators and one Delegate doing voting for Gambling when Gambling is in Cecil Tucky and no Harford County. I work in Politics and with the Politicians in Annapolis and I can tell you, Glenn did the right thing by changing his mind to protect your animal rights and to try and stop the gambling bill. I dont here you speak abouts talking about that, rather, making fun of someone who actually did go and do the peoples work anyways. Unlike others I can mention in the Democratic party that got free passes not to show up, and those 5 republicans in the House that vote for Gambling should be tarred and feathered, instead of cracking useless jokes.

Let me also tell you, being a former residing of Harford County and my family still living there and my son going to HDGH, most of you have no clue what you are talking about. NONE whatsoever. Did any of you listen to the proceedings? Probably not. Patrick McGrady, or whomever you thought could be in office, many of which were not qualified anyways. Delegate Glen Glass is more than qualified to represent you. The Real Clowns are yourselves looking like azzes with your comments, it shows your political immaturity and inexperience. Anyways, like politics in Maryland, it will be forgotten and I will be out there full force supporting and promoting Delegate Glen Glass for Re Election. Check his voting record, Impeccable, a True Conservative, so get off the stupid rhetoric and look at the issues, so what if he changed his mind. How many times do you change yours? How many times? Tell me, I want to know, instead of bashing like a bunch of school yard thugs, act like you know what you are talking about instead of bloveating BS for which you have no ideas why. Feel free to email your thoughts, I will be more than happy to provide you the facts and when Delegate Glen Glass voiced his Boycott, there were many others in the Republican party that were discussing it as well, and this was prior to knowing that there was going to be more than just Gambling. His decision was made prior to finding out there were other bills that were going to be introduced. .

He also went there to protect your 2nd amendment rights, which got kicked out and also your rights to protect you as animal owners. I would submit, if it was just gambling, Tony ODonnell should have called for a full Caucus Boycott, but remember, there were 5 republicans that went on the democratic agenda and sold out to special interests groups and MGM while Glen did not. He should be commended, not chastised. Stop acting like children, I live up in Harford County, Bel Ail from 1982 to 2006, so I know everyone of these people who are talking, and if you run for office of any sort, I will sure to share with the voters your immature remarks. Cheers. Cecil Calvert, my website takes 20,000 hits a day and surely you dont want to be on that list, I have gotten Politicians elected out, ask Ex Senator Don Munson what I can do.
