Sunset for Arbutus Tanning Salon

Palm Beach Tan assuming customers of Jamaican Me Tan of 5200-block East Drive

Jamaican Me Tan salon, which has operated at 5201 East Drive across from the former Superfresh for more than a dozen years, shut its doors on Jan. 18.

"Due to circumstances beyond my control, I've made the painful decision to close Jamaican Me tan, effective today," owner Kimberly Thomas said in an email to customers and posted to the front door of the darkened business.

Thomas told customers that Palm Beach Tan, located at 1520 Sulphur Spring Road, will honor all of Jamaican Me Tan's memberships and account.

When contacted by Arbutus Patch, Thomas declined to comment for this story.

Nice that they knew they were about to close and signed my daughter up for a membership just a few days before. Pathetic that it comes down to the almighty dollar and not common courtesy to let your customers know that this about to happen so that they can decide if they wanted to give you money for just a few days of tanning. Wouldn't this world be so much of a better place if people actually treated people the way that they would want to be treated.

Shelly--the report stated that ..."Thomas told customers that Palm Beach Tan, located at 1520 Sulphur Spring Road, will honor all of Jamaican Me Tan's memberships and account". Sounds like she took care of her customers--including your daughter. What am I missing?

Thomas didn't tell her customers that she was about to close and feel that she shouldn't have been selling new memberships if she knew that. She transferred customers to go to Palm Beach Tan and some people don't like that franchise since they make you wait til the exact minute that you tanned the day before to tan again that day. Students that work fit their tanning in when they can and it is different times of the day sometimes and so you don't get to tan some days. My daughter left Palm Beach tan because of that and went to Jamaican Me Tan. When my daughter was transferred back to Palm Beach Tan she was informed that they don't have the plan that she had at Jamacian Me Tan and needed to review and purchase a different plan. Why sell a new membership if you know you are about to close in just a few days and force someone to go to a different location with different rules and you have no way of getting a refund if you don't like it?? Jamaican Me Tan was good at their location I just feel that was lack of good customer relations to close with no notice and you are signing new memberships.
