Sun: State Investigating Catonsville Development

The state is seeking records on the Southwest Physicians Pavilion developed by Whalen Properties.

The Baltimore Sun reported that eight Baltimore County agencies had their records subpoenaed by the Office of the State Prosecutor.

In an article posted Thursday, the state was asking for records associated with the Southwest Physicians Pavilion, which developer Whalen Properties has proposed for Kenwood Avenue.

Developer Steve Whalen told the Sun said that wasn't aware of any issues related to the development. To read the full article, go here.

The proposed project is a Planned Unit Development, which allows the developer more flexibility when going through the development process. A PUD also requires public meetings to gather input from the community.

The land has been owned by Whalen Properties since 2004 and the company proposed developing two acres of land that will include four stories of office space and a three-story garage.

Developers will be in Towson this Thursday, August 23 for a hearing officer's hearing as part of the PUD process.

Out of curiosity, has Whalen Properties considered the impact their 'PUD' will have on the residents on Kenwood Avenue? How about the school? Living about a tenth or two from the proposed development site, I can only hope the investigation will result in the development not occurring. The traffic is already funny with the expansion of the Beltway, we don't need for our road to get torn up and closed off periodically for this construction.

Gee I wonder if they look into the lack of support of homeowners concerns with the government housing in 21229

I read in past articles that the site had the proper zoning for an office building for a number of years. It seems the issue is the PUD that allowed for more space than originally allowed. That would seem to be the only point that's debatable.

" has Whalen Properties considered the impact their 'PUD' will have on the residents on Kenwood Avenue"
You ARE joking right? Whalen has never worried about anyone but himself.
Whalen SHOULD be investigated, its about time.

Senator Kasemeyer should also be investigated in his dealings with Whalen.

Whalen could have built his Promenade near the junction of Wilkins and S Rolling on some of that open farm land so close to Rt 95 and 695 access but no, he wanted all that land preserved since he lives there. He wil put all those office parks everywhere but near his home.

Whalen sold a piece of property to the County near Security Mall for a courthouse that COULD have been built on STATE owned land at Spring Grove. But NOOOO. He wants to buy some of that SG land for his own profiteering. Whalen makes out selling to AND buying from his friends in local and state government. What a deal.

Ask you local elected officials this, IF any SG property is designated "surplus", if that parcel of land is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC to purchase. Will you have the same opportunity to purchase that land as Whalen will? Or is it a done deal in the eyes of the elected officials like Kasemeyer et al?

It is an incestuous relationship local developers have with the elected officials.
