Poll: Twinkies or Devil Dogs? Your Favorite Hostess Treat

Hostess is going out of business, and plans to liquidate. In honor of traditional sweet treats, vote for your favorite, below.

Hostess is going out of business and plans to liquidate its assets.

"Striking workers across the country crippled its ability to make its Twinkies, Ding Dongs and other snacks," according to an article on AOL, by The Associated Press.

Some hostess makers throughout the country, including in St. Louis, have already closed.

But that might not mean the death of its brands. A story in Forbes Friday morning mentions that someone might buy Hostess.

Do you eat anything by Hostess these days? Which is your favorite, or if you no longer eat them, which is your all-time favorite? Tell us how often you used to eat them, or why your favorite is best, in the comments section below this article. Where do YOU buy them?

What are those EBay listings about? Are Twinkies selling at a high price?

I only looked at the first page and didn't see many with bids but having a shelf half life of a few decades there is no hurry to unload them quickly.

Twinkies for $200,000! "This is a great collectors item that can be passed down to family members and will only gain in value!" How rich is that. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-box-of-Hostess-Twinkies-/321024827871?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4abe9221df

The Unions thought Hostess would cave. They did not. Now thousands of people will be out of work in a horrible economy - and may never again make the money they are making now. Sometimes, you have to give in to keep the ball rolling, regroup, and if you don't like it, find a job elsewhere - but keep working! How many families will have their lives changed because of the stupidity of the unions? Management of Hostess also did not want this - they are in the same boat.
I hope the rank and file hold their union membership accountable - they should be out of work also.
The brands will continue. Sure hope so. No twinkies - that is just unamerican.

If you think Hostess is closing because the union would not cave in negotiations then I've got a box of Twinkies here for you for $200.00. The fact is this company was mismanaged and in trouble for a long time before now. They are using the union as a scapegoat for some reason, probably it exempts them from having to pay severance or something.

Witness:

"On September 22, 2004, Interstate Bakeries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. During the 2004–2009 bankruptcy period, Interstate closed nine of its 54 bakeries and more than 300 outlet stores. Interstate's work force declined from 32,000 to 22,000 employees."

Hostess has been here before.

Sean:

Here is the bottom line:

Union employees out of work. Given the fact that they were union employees for a long period of time, the "taint" of the union worker will stay with them. Non union shops will want no parts of them - especially since they took Hostess down. Their skill set was for one operation, and one operation only. Chances of employment - SLIM. Chances of employment paying what they were making before the were let go - NONE. Perhaps they will get employment with the group that purchases the brand names - at about 60% of their current benefit package. But I doubt it. Why would an employer hire a problem worker?

We live in a competitive environment. Perhaps management was not strong, perhaps it was because the unions had them in a bad spot and this was the final straw.

But the union Workers are out of work - because of their stupidity. Hopefully some other union group will realize taking some concessions and having a job is better than not.

The union didn't take Hostess down. Hostess took Hostess down. Mismanagement was the problem with Hostess, not skilled employees.
