Investigator: Fatal SW Baltimore Rowhouse Fire Likely Electrical
No signs of arson or foul play in fire that killed two Arbutus youth football players.
The Sept. 22, 2011 fire that swept through rowhouses on South Pulaski Street in Baltimore City and killed two Arbutus youth football players and their mother was likely caused by a failure of an electrical appliance, but is not fully ascertained, according to fire investigators.
Michelle Manigo, 32, died along with ten-year-old Taquis, and Jyquis, 7. One person, George Washington, who was engaged to Manigo, escaped the fire.
A third sibling in the family, Marquis, spent the night at a grandparent's house and was unharmed.
All three children played for the Arbutus Golden Eagles football team.
According to Baltimore City Fire Department investigators, the fire at 629 South Pulaski appeared to start in the middle of the first floor between the two front rooms.
In the final report on the fire, the investigator said that the fire may have been caused by "a possible electrical failure/fault of a consumer appliance but cannot be fully ascertained at this time."
