On the evening of Sept. 11, two Halethorpe residents powered up industrial-strength weed trimmers to tackle overgrown foliage along Waelchli Avenue near the Amtrack tracks.

Mike McAuliffe, president of Halethorpe Improvement Association, and groundskeeper Joe Powell spent their evening trimming vegetation around the railroad trestle that many regard as the gateway to Arbutus.

Previously, McAuliffe and other volunteers cleared away brush at the top of staircases leading up from Sulphur Spring Road, which at one time long ago led to the Arbutus Station.

If the area around the bridge seems cleaner and less cluttered, this is why.

The Halethorpe Improvement Association does a fantastic job! So much to thank them for but most of all the hard work they do and the support they give to other community associations. Wonderful job guys.

There is a noticeable improvement and beauty to those previously "unattended" common areas. The entire community looks great! Thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard on those hot days. The trash cans and bags have also kept the areas tidy - a very nice addition.
