An off-duty Baltimore County Police Department officer was shot twice in the Overlea area Sunday morning after a gunman emerged from a crowd.
At 3:24 a.m. police found the officer, suffering from two gunshot wounds, at Dale Avenue and Danwood Road, according to a report from Baltimore County police.
Police found out that a "large group of people" had been blocking the street, and that the off-duty officer had "stopped his vehicle and asked them to move so he could pass," the report states.
"A male emerged from the crowd with a gun and fired several shots into the victim's car, striking him twice," it states.
The officer was taken to Shock Trauma with non-life threatening injuries, and was released.
"Investigators believe that the incident was random and the officer was not targeted," the news release states.
Police had investigated an earlier incident in that area.
At 3:17 a.m. they went to Dale and Kenwood avenues for the report of a fight.
