Why Go: Work up a sweat and de-stress from your work week at this weekly volleyball games. Players of all experience levels are welcome.

Where/When: Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Sip on a cool drink or refresh yourself with a tasty snack while you meander through the flea market and look at all the great stuff that's for sale!

Catonsville:

Where/When: Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Why Go: Vendors and buyers alike are welcome at this monthly flea market! There's a wide variety of items for sale, and there are plenty of buyers for all of your gently-used items.

Pricing: Free to browse; vendor space: $10

Where/When: Maureen of Maryland Hypnosis on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Why Go: If you're stressed out and looking for creative and unique ways to reduce your tension and anxiety, this free class will show you everything you need to know!

Columbia:

Where/When: Merriweather Post Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m.

Why Go: The 1990s are alive and well in Columbia! Who can forget the greatest alternative rock station from that era? HFS is back with its yearly festival, featuring local favorites Clutch, as well as the Gin Blossoms, Dr. Dog and others.

Pricing: Lawn: $35, pavilion: $50

Where/When: Howard County Library East Columbia Branch on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m.

Why Go: So you just got a new canine pal (or you're thinking of getting one) and you're not sure how to take care of him. How often should you feed him? What about walking him? Find out the answers to these questions and more at this free class. (Advance registration is required.)

Elkridge:

Where/When: Patapsco Valley State Park Hilton Area at 1100 Hilton Ave. in Catonsville on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: Have you ever watched Bear Grylls and wanted to learn more about how to survive in the wild? This class will teach you the basics of what you need to know: how to build a shelter, light a fire and more. (Advance registration is required.)

Pricing: $2

Where/When: The Perfect Pour on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Fall is just around the corner! Celebrate Oktoberfest just a few weeks early and sample some seasonal brews. Also featured: German wines!

Ellicott City:

Where/When: Howard County Fairgrounds at 210 Fairground Rd. in West Friendship on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: For gun collectors or for those in the market for a new firearm, there will be over 400 tables at this gun show. Holsters, sights and other merchandise will also be available for purchase.

Pricing: Adults: $8, seniors (62 years old and older): $6; children (12 years old and younger): free

Where/When: Still Life Gallery on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Go: Matt Klos is exhibiting his work at the gallery and this is the opening reception! You will have a chance to meet the artist (who also lives in the Baltimore area) and view his stunning works of art.
