Rich Flemming, who played one year of basketball at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, was shot and killed on Sunday in Philadelphia.
The 24-year-old Flemming was shot three times, at before 6 p.m. Sunday, according to a story in the story in the Fairfield (CT) Minuteman. He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards at the Temple University Medical Center.
The story said that Philadelphia police had made an arrest, but the information on that wasn't available as of Wednesday morning.
Flemming played for UMBC in the 2008-09 season after transferring from Fairfield. He averaged 6.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in 23 games as UMBC made it to the America East championship game where it lost to Binghamton in March 2009.
UMBC dismissed Flemming from the team before the following season.
