Customers Greet Save-A-Lot Opening

"I love how wide the aisles are," one customer said.

After weeks of anticipation, the Save-A-Lot on East Drive in Arbutus opened for its first day of business on Mar. 15. The question is--are residents buying it?

Based on comments from a steady stream of customers exiting the store, the answer is yes.

"Very nice," said Catherine Slater of Halethorpe. "Nice and clean and roomy."

"I love how wide the aisles are," said Megan Santiago of Arbutus. "When it was Superfresh, you could barely get two carts passing in an aisle."

"It's very clean, very open and bright," said Ann Ebaugh of Arbutus. "I'll be back."

"I didn't expect to see brand names, but they were there," said Patricia Foster of Arbutus, who was shopping with Santiago.

Save-A-Lot employee Alyssa DiPietro spent her morning greeting customers by the front door, showing people how to use a quarter as a deposit to get a shopping cart and giving away small bags of Dorito chips.

"We've been steady all day," DiPietro said. "A lot of people have been dropping by to take a look."
