Athletic Field Memorial Defaced
Rocks painted in honor of Arbutus Golden Eagle coach and players vandalized with spray paint.
An Arbutus Athletic Association memorial on the field of Arbutus Middle School was defaced by vandals who spray painted rocks that had been decorated to honor the memory of a Golden Eagle coach and two young players who tragically died in a fire last year.
Three rocks located on the athletic field, located near the footbridge next to Arbutus Middle School, had been painted as a memorial to coach Carl "Thunder" Linton, Jr., and to Marquis and Tyquis Manigo, brothers who perished in a house fire last September.
Linton passed away in 2008, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Golden Eagles president Matt Kuhn said that the vandalism likely happened on Monday or Tuesday.
"It’s apparent that some people in the community have no idea the meaning of these “rocks.'" said Jessica Laster, a Golden Eagle parent. "They are painted with the numbers of our fallen Eagles."
Members of the football team touch these rocks before stepping on the field before each and every home game, Laster said.
The association is planning on repainting the rocks, according to Kuhn.
Any person with information about the vandalism can contact Precinct 1/Wilkens at 410-887-0872, or email bruce.goldfarb@patch.com.

This is probably the work of the same bunch of kids that roam throughout the neighborhood in the middle of the night tagging bridge overpasses and underpasses, street signs, school walls, sheds, etc. It is nearly impossible to catch them, and it really doesn't matter if they are caught, because they nor their parent(s) would suffer penalties nor be ordered to give restitution. Also, as the graffiti taggers grow out of that life phase an incoming bunch take their place to get their thrills as well. It is continuous cycle. The best way to handle graffiti is to remove it quickly or paint over it quickly.

vandalism graffiti is throughout the area. is this behavior shocking to folks?
i dont understand this news clip.
im also confused with the statement "It’s apparent that some people in the community have no idea the meaning of these “rocks.'" said Jessica Laster, a Golden Eagle parent. "They are painted with the numbers of our fallen Eagles."
its tragic when anyones life is lost so is this something they are doing for all those that die in the program? im confused. my children played peewee football for the area and they didnt do that then so i guess i fall in with the people that jessica laster mentioned in not knowing what it means. i can say this im all about keeping my house in tip top shape and do not stand for taggers and their tagging in my neighborhood. i drive through parts of arbutus and landsdowne all the time and see nothing but this. i wonder why that is not in the news?

Al, not debunking your comment about area graffiti, but we strive to abate graffiti in the Halethorpe end of town the best we can. We have a few group of volunteers that wash off or paint over graffiti as it appears. Of course, we can't address a large section of town, but the area within our bounds looks pretty graffiti free. Check out the bridges, public trash cans, etc. They look good.
